GOOGLE READER

This is for all of you out there (Kent and Wendy to name a few) who do not want to always check a blog to see if it was updated. It is called Google Reader and it will keep track for you when someone makes a new post to the blog, so you don't always have to check it.

So what you do is make an account with google- it's free and only takes a minute to do. (If you already have a gmail account then you are set). Then you can just go to google's homepage and Click on my account, on the top right hand side. Then click on Reader. On the right hand side of the page click on Add Subscription. ( It's in blue.) This part might take ya a second but it's worth it. Then you have to add each of the blogs on your list individually as a subscription. So I just opened my blog in one window, then Reader in another, and went down my link list and would open each one and just copy the url and paste it to the subscription. Once that is done you can view your subscription list as All or Updated. Click on updated and ta-da! Oh, when you first do it, it will tell you that all your subscriptions are updated so you need to go through and open each one and when you open it just click Mark all as read. Once you have done that to each link, from then on it will only show you the updated ones. Oh, and if you want to open the a persons actual blog to leave a comment, just click on the blue arrow right next to the blog name and it will take you to that blog. Hope that helps - if it doesn't make any sense, let me know and I can help you. Thanks everyone!

Feeds are really what gives blogs power. I use apple mail for my email (outlook for macs) and it has the ability to pull blog feeds like google reader so blog posts come in just like email. It is amazing because people can subscribe to your blog without you even knowing. So you write one article and your fans automatically get it without you sending it. I hope the family uses some type of reader for their blog reading. Thanks, Clay

Thanks for these tips! I'm going out to set mine up right now! By the way, you don't need to use a google email account to setup a google account. I use my comcast.net email address to setup my google account. You just have to have some kind of email account. Thanks again andrea.
